Learning About Lomi Lomi

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) of NC recently had a continuing education convention in Statesville, NC. I had a great opportunity to take a Lomi Lomi class. As many of you know I was born and raised in Hawaii and carry the aloha spirit with me. This class was an interesting step away from my usual practice as a medical massage therapist and helped me to understand and learn more about a diverse modality.

Lomi Lomi is a Hawaiian healing art that was integrated into their culture and spiritual belief and is very different from the western modalities we know as massage today. It is a complex modality that often takes years of study, apprenticeship, and dedication to master. I enjoyed the class and learned some new tools and body mechanics to incorporate in my current massage.

While I am not a master of Lomi Lomi and don't offer full Lomi Lomi sessions, I look forward to incorporating some of the techniques I learned and the style of this massage with my every day massage!
